16 Feb
Summary
- Reliance Retail is piloting a new search platform to connect online and in-store shopping.
- The platform is currently in trial at apparel stores like Trends and Yousta.
- India's retail sector faces intense competition from online and quick commerce firms.

Reliance Retail, India's largest retailer with over 19,340 stores, is currently piloting an innovative search-and-discovery platform. This new technology aims to create a more cohesive experience between its brick-and-mortar locations and online presence.
The platform is initially being trialed at Reliance's apparel brands, including Trends and Yousta. Following successful testing, it is slated for rollout across its Smart Bazaar chain later in 2026. Customers can engage with the platform by scanning a QR code within stores, enabling them to discover and search for products that align with their individual preferences.
This initiative by Reliance Retail occurs amidst a fiercely competitive Indian retail landscape. The sector is experiencing intense pressure from established online platforms like Amazon India and Flipkart, alongside fast-growing quick commerce services. Reliance's own online grocery service, JioMart, is also set to expand into the 10-minute delivery segment in 2025.
