Regions Financial Profit Surges 14% on Strong Loan Growth
17 Apr
Summary
- First-quarter profit rose 14% due to robust loan expansion.
- Net interest income climbed to $1.25 billion, up 4.5%.
- Exposure to non-depository financial institutions totals $12.8 billion.

Regions Financial announced a notable 14% surge in its first-quarter profit, a performance primarily attributed to a robust expansion in its loan portfolio. This growth was significantly influenced by the U.S. Federal Reserve's interest rate adjustments made during the second half of 2025, which favorably impacted lending income.
During the first quarter, the bank's net interest income, a key measure of profitability from lending activities, increased by 4.5% year-over-year to reach $1.25 billion. Concurrently, provisions set aside for potential credit losses saw a reduction, falling to $91 million from $124 million in the prior year, signaling an improvement in overall asset quality.
Further contributing to the bank's financial strength were its underwriting and wealth management divisions. These segments delivered strong performance, leading to a 6% rise in non-interest income, which totaled $625 million for the quarter. Regions Financial reported quarterly net income of $559 million, translating to 62 cents per share.
The bank also highlighted its exposure to non-depository financial institutions (NDFIs), amounting to approximately $12.8 billion. While acknowledging this growing area of focus amid private-credit segment concerns, Regions stated that structural protections are in place for its private-credit exposure, which constitutes 14% of its NDFI portfolio.
