Redding Car Dealer Eyes Anderson Move
23 Apr
Summary
- Crown Motors is in escrow to purchase property in Anderson.
- The move is likely years away, with many steps remaining.
- Redding faces potential loss of sales tax revenue if the dealership leaves.

Crown Motors, a well-established car dealership in Redding, is currently in escrow to acquire a freeway frontage property located in Anderson. Owner Steve Roberts cautioned that the process is complex, with numerous potential hurdles, and even under favorable conditions, the move is estimated to be two to two-and-a-half years away.
The property targeted for purchase is situated at 4161 Riverside Place, adjacent to the Gaia Hotel on the east side of Interstate 5. This site is presently occupied by TowTally Camping, an RV dealership that announced the impending sale on social media. TowTally Camping owners expressed hope of finding another location in Anderson but acknowledged the difficulty in securing a suitable space.
Roberts cited pressure from automotive manufacturers for facility upgrades as the primary driver for seeking a new location, having been unable to find suitable property within Redding. The potential departure of Crown Motors raises concerns for Redding's Mayor, Mike Littau, who noted the significant impact on the city's sales tax revenue during a period of financial review.
Crown Motors has a history in Redding, established in 1982 through a merger and later expanding its brands. The current West Cypress Avenue facilities were built in the early 1970s, making a move to a custom-built facility more financially prudent for Roberts. The owner of the current Redding property, Crown Partners, has a mailing address in Novato.
