Ravensthorpe Station will commence a two-year closure this Sunday, marking a pivotal phase in the Transpennine Route Upgrade (TRU). Passengers traveling between Ravensthorpe and Dewsbury will utilize a rail replacement bus service while the station undergoes a comprehensive transformation. This extensive project aims to modernize facilities, including the installation of a new footbridge equipped with lifts for enhanced accessibility.
The upgrade extends to a redesigned forecourt to facilitate easier passenger drop-offs and a lengthened island platform. These improvements are crucial for accommodating larger trains, thereby increasing seating capacity and enhancing the overall commuter experience. Engineers are actively engaged in laying a new four-track railway and constructing the Baker Viaduct.
Andrew Campbell, TRU Sponsor, highlighted that the Ravensthorpe triangle is currently one of the North's largest civil-engineering sites. The ongoing work, including bridge construction and viaduct pier installation, is vital for track realignment and ensuring more reliable, smoother journeys across the Pennines. The community's understanding is appreciated as these upgrades promise a modernized station and superior rail travel.
