The Quincy Food Bank is embarking on a crucial expansion project to address a significant increase in demand for its services. In June 2025, the food bank served 1,856 households, a doubling from the 748 households assisted in June 2021, highlighting a growing need for more food and storage.
To fund a new cold storage facility, the food bank hosted its first-ever fundraising auction on March 4th. This event, featuring corned beef, cabbage, and Irish dancers from An Daire Academy, successfully raised an estimated $15,000. The funds are dedicated to constructing a 3,200-square-foot building on the lot the food bank has owned since 2015.
The planned facility will include a freezer and a cooler, allowing for greater storage capacity. Construction is anticipated to begin by the end of March, with ground to be broken on the new building. The city has cooperated by allowing access across an alley, ensuring a smooth connection to the existing food bank.
Community support has been instrumental, with numerous items donated for the auction and the Port of Quincy providing its building for the event. Volunteers played a key role in serving dinner and organizing the auction, which began with a small raffle initiative and grew to include 75 donated items.
