Qantas Fuels Up: Iran Conflict Poses No Threat
21 Mar
Summary
- Qantas CEO assures fuel supplies are secured into April.
- No flights canceled due to fuel shortages despite war concerns.
- Airline plans extra flights to Europe to avoid conflict zones.

Qantas Airways has assured customers and staff that its fuel supplies remain robust and are secured well into April 2026. CEO Vanessa Hudson communicated this confidence to employees, stating that government and fuel suppliers have affirmed strong supply levels. As of March 21, 2026, not a single Qantas flight has been canceled due to fuel concerns.
The ongoing conflict in the Middle East, which has led to concerns about the closure of the Strait of Hormuz—a critical oil transit route—has not impacted Qantas's operational fuel availability. Australia had 29 days of jet fuel reserves as of March 10, 2026, according to government data.
In response to soaring global fuel prices, Qantas announced fare increases on international routes last week. Hudson indicated that the airline is exploring further measures to mitigate these increased costs. The airline is also increasing capacity on European routes, with two extra flights to London via Singapore scheduled for this weekend using Airbus A380 jets, to meet strong traveler demand for routes avoiding the conflict zone.
