- The 'pounds for pylons' scheme offers £250 annually for 10 years.
- Projects are primarily in Scotland, but also England and Wales.

The Department for Energy and Net Zero (DESNZ) has launched a new initiative, dubbed 'pounds for pylons,' offering financial benefits to households located near new or upgraded electricity infrastructure. This scheme designates 43 initial projects eligible for payments extending up to a decade.
Individuals residing within 500 metres of eligible overground transmission lines, including substations and convertors, can receive a discount of £250 per year. Over ten years, this could amount to a total of £2,500 off their electricity bills. Construction for these eligible projects must have commenced on or after March 10, 2025.
While most of the selected projects are in Scotland, the program also includes upgrades in various parts of England, such as London, Essex, Suffolk, and Norfolk, as well as areas in North Wales. Critics, however, have voiced concerns that the offered compensation is inadequate to offset potential negative impacts on the environment and property values.
