Puttur Gears Up for Major Road Overhaul
19 Oct
Summary
- A comprehensive road survey will begin in Puttur within 15 days.
- The study will cover Puttur's city limits and a 3km surrounding buffer.
- The plan aims to improve junctions, roads, footpaths, and traffic management.
Puttur has been selected among four towns in the Mysuru division for a comprehensive road survey and mobility plan by the Directorate of Urban Land Transport (DULT). This initiative is expected to guide phased improvements to the town's infrastructure, including junctions, road connectivity, footpaths, and traffic management systems.
The road inventory and mobility plan (RIMP) will encompass all roads within Puttur's City Municipal Council limits and a 3km buffer area. Commencing within approximately 15 days, the survey is slated for completion in about six months. It will utilize GIS-based mapping to document crucial elements such as road widths, junction designs, traffic flow, parking availability, public transport, and pedestrian infrastructure.
Following the assessment, DULT will develop designs and cost estimates for priority junctions and road corridors. This will form the foundation for a 10-year phased development plan, focusing on enhancing congested areas and addressing safety concerns. DULT will fully fund this study, which is expected to lead to scientific planning and potential development when land and funds become available.
