22 Jul
Summary
- Puratos Ltd received a £120,000 fine for safety breaches.
- Workers faced risks from dust and manual heavy lifting.
- The company was previously warned in 2021 for similar issues.

A significant fine of £120,000 has been levied against bakery ingredients manufacturer Puratos Ltd for exposing its workforce to serious health risks.
During an inspection in December 2024, Health and Safety Executive (HSE) officers discovered dust escaping from machinery at the company's warehouse located in Buckinghamshire. Furthermore, employees were found to be manually lifting heavy sacks of ingredients, weighing 25kg daily.
These practices led to Puratos Ltd being found guilty of violating the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974. The company was also ordered to cover £6,270 in legal costs at Milton Keynes Magistrates' Court. Notably, this was not the first intervention by the HSE, as enforcement action was previously taken in 2021 concerning comparable safety issues.
