In a significant move to bolster industrial energy security, Maharashtra Industries Minister Uday Samant announced a mission-mode campaign to achieve 100% piped natural gas (PNG) connectivity across Pune district. This initiative is designed to provide connections to every industry that seeks them, with special camps planned for expedited implementation.
Speaking at a recent industry review meeting, Samant emphasized the critical need for uninterrupted industrial production for the state's economy, especially given the current global climate. He highlighted natural gas as a cost-effective, safe, and eco-friendly energy source, stressing its prompt accessibility to eligible industries. The Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC), gas distributors, and the district administration are directed to collaborate effectively.
The campaign will streamline application procedures and technical approvals, clearing pending cases through dedicated camps. This effort aims to significantly improve the state's 'Ease of Doing Business.' Furthermore, the minister revealed plans to offer MIDC land on long-term leases, up to 30 years, for industries to establish solar power projects, thereby reducing electricity expenses and fostering energy independence.
Additionally, the meeting addressed infrastructure development, with ₹350 crore allocated for internal roads in MIDC areas. Proposals for corporate guest houses, truck terminals, and permanent sanitation facilities were also discussed to strengthen industrial zones.
