Pune Airport Deploys Special Teams to Manage Diwali Travel Crowds

As of October 11, 2025, the Pune airport is gearing up to manage the expected influx of travelers during the Diwali festival season. Special teams comprising officials from the airport, airlines, and the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) will be stationed at the airport, particularly in the late evening hours, to maintain order and prevent congestion inside the terminal building.

The airport authorities have held extensive discussions with all stakeholders to ensure a coordinated effort. These special teams will be on-site to address any crowding situations, with the aim of ensuring that flyers do not experience stress and that airport operations run smoothly. Last year, the Diwali period saw no significant crowding at the airport.

Currently, Pune Airport handles an average of 25,000 to 30,000 passengers daily. This Diwali, the footfall is projected to increase by 10% to 15%, potentially even more. In anticipation of the surge, the AeroMall vice-president has announced that additional staffers will be deployed at cab pick-up points, and the airport has also coordinated with ride-hailing aggregators to assign more personnel to manage the increased demand.

The CISF has been instructed to remain vigilant and expedite security checks, with the aim of completing them within 10 minutes. All staffers have been directed to be alert at all times, and the new terminal building has significantly improved airport operations. However, travelers during this period are advised to plan to arrive at the airport approximately two hours before their departure to avoid any inconvenience.
