Promoters Bet Big: QIPs Get a Promoter Warrant Boost
28 Aug
Summary
- Promoters pay above QIP floor prices for warrants.
- Piramal Finance aims to grow loan book and capital adequacy.
- Ather Energy expands manufacturing capacity for EVs.

A key indicator of a company's future growth is when promoters invest their own capital alongside institutional investors, a strategy exemplified by Piramal Finance and Ather Energy. Both companies utilized a combination of Qualified Institutional Placements (QIPs) and promoter warrants, with promoters often committing funds at prices exceeding the QIP floor.
Piramal Finance's QIP and preferential issue, approved on August 24, 2026, aim to raise approximately ₹3,850 crore for onward lending and capital adequacy. This move supports its goal of growing its loan book by 25% in FY27, targeting ₹1.25 lakh crore.
Ather Energy, an electric two-wheeler maker, successfully raised ₹1,300 crore through a QIP in June 2026. Additional funds from promoter warrants will support manufacturing expansion, including a new facility with a capacity of 1 million units annually, to meet surging demand.
While other companies like KIMS Hospitals and Arvind Limited have also used QIPs and warrants, Piramal Finance and Ather Energy stand out for using capital primarily for growth rather than debt repayment. Their success hinges on effective execution of expansion plans and achieving sustainable profitability.
