Poundland Shuts Over 100 UK Stores This Winter
5 Dec
Summary
- Over 100 Poundland stores closing by early next year.
- Fourteen additional stores to shut by February.
- Clearance sales offer up to 40% off selected items.

Budget retailer Poundland has announced an accelerated wave of store closures over the winter period, as it continues its extensive turnaround strategy. The company anticipates having shut more than 100 shops in the UK by early next year, marking a significant reduction in its store portfolio. These closures are a critical part of the ongoing restructuring program aimed at optimizing the business.
A further 14 stores are slated for closure by early February, adding to the 19 locations already scheduled to shut in the coming months. Customers at these affected branches can expect substantial clearance sales, with reductions of up to 40% on items spanning homeware, groceries, clothing, and beauty products. These sales are intended to help the company exit these locations responsibly.
Poundland's UK country manager, Darren MacDonald, acknowledged the disappointment of store closures but emphasized the commitment to offering value during the final sale periods. The company aims to leave these locations with pride and looks forward to serving customers at its remaining hundreds of stores throughout the UK.
