Porsche Job Cuts: VW's Plan Slashes 4,000+
19 Sep
Summary
- Volkswagen plans over 4,000 additional job cuts at Porsche.
- The cuts aim to address a significant overhead shortfall.
- Porsche recently lowered its full-year profit margin target.
Volkswagen's extensive restructuring initiative is set to result in more than 4,000 additional job reductions at its Porsche brand. This move is a direct response to a substantial overhead deficit amounting to approximately €700 million.
These proposed layoffs are distinct from earlier employment reduction agreements. In July, Porsche management and labor representatives had already consented to an additional 5,000 layoffs, on top of 4,000 previously determined cuts. This brings the total agreed-upon job reductions at the Stuttgart-based manufacturer to roughly one in five positions by 2035.
The parent company, Volkswagen, can only recommend these measures to Porsche, not enforce them. The sports car brand recently lowered its full-year profit margin target significantly, now anticipating a maximum of 1% compared to the previous 4.0-5.5% range. This downward revision is largely attributed to a writedown at Porsche, where CEO Michael Leiters faces pressure to devise a successful turnaround strategy.
