7 May
Summary
- 403,706 micro-enterprises established, surpassing target.
- Nearly 3.63 million jobs created by the scheme.
- 80% of enterprises located in rural areas.

The Prime Minister's Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) has successfully driven grassroots entrepreneurship by supporting non-farm micro-enterprises. During the 15th Finance Commission cycle (FY22-FY26), PMEGP facilitated the establishment of 403,706 enterprises, exceeding its goal. This flagship scheme by the Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises has also generated employment for approximately 3.63 million individuals.
PMEGP actively promotes social inclusion and balanced regional growth. Women constitute nearly 40% of beneficiaries, receiving about 45% of the margin money subsidy. Members from Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and Other Backward Classes represent around 54% of recipients. Crucially, approximately 80% of PMEGP-supported enterprises were founded in rural areas, fostering decentralised development and rural industrialisation nationwide.
