Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited Navi Mumbai on October 8, 2025, to inaugurate the first phase of the Navi Mumbai International Airport and flag off the final stretch of the Mumbai Metro-3 (Aqua Line) corridor.
The new Navi Mumbai International Airport, built at a cost of Rs 19,650 crore, has a single runway and one terminal building capable of handling 20 million passengers annually. Commercial flight operations are expected to commence in December, providing much-needed relief to the overburdened Mumbai airport and fulfilling a decades-long demand for a second aviation hub serving the metropolitan region.
Additionally, PM Modi launched the 'Mumbai One' app, a common platform that brings together a dozen public transport operators, including Metro lines, monorail, suburban railway, and major bus services. The app will allow commuters to purchase tickets digitally, plan multimodal journeys, and access real-time travel updates, promoting cashless, paperless, and integrated public transport across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.
The inauguration of the Navi Mumbai Airport and the completion of the Metro-3 corridor are significant milestones in the city's efforts to improve its transportation infrastructure and ease the commuting challenges faced by its residents.
