No Plan to Double PM Kisan Payout, Minister Confirms

The government has stated that there are no current plans to double the annual payout for the PM Kisan Scheme, which currently provides Rs 6,000 to eligible farmers. This response came on December 12, 2025, following a recommendation from a parliamentary standing committee in December 2024 to increase the amount to Rs 12,000. Minister of State for Agriculture, Ramnath Thakur, confirmed that this proposal is not under consideration.
Furthermore, the mandatory requirement for a Farmer ID has been clarified. It is now a requirement for new registrations only in the 14 states where the farmer registry work has commenced. Farmers in states where this process has not yet begun can still register for the scheme without a Farmer ID.
The PM Kisan Scheme, launched in February 2019, aims to supplement the financial needs of farmers. It transfers Rs 6,000 annually via Direct Benefit Transfer. Over Rs 4.09 lakh crore has been disbursed to beneficiaries since the scheme's inception.
