Plata, a Mexican fintech company, has successfully raised $405 million in a Series C funding round, achieving a valuation of $5 billion. This landmark funding makes Plata the most valuable privately-held financial services firm in Latin America.
The funding round was led by Bicycle Capital and included other prominent investors such as Kora and Qatar Investment Authority. This investment arrives as Plata operates in Mexico's competitive financial landscape, challenging traditional lenders.
Founded in 2023 by former Tinkoff employees, Plata offers digital loans and payment services. The company has experienced substantial growth, boasting over 3.5 million active credit card customers, a significant increase from 1 million in March 2025.
Plata's valuation now positions it among the region's top fintechs, surpassing competitors like Klar and Stori. The company has raised over $2 billion in total debt and equity and reported over $600 million in annualized revenue in less than three years.
While currently operating solely in Mexico, Plata has received approval to become a financial institution in Colombia as of July 2025. The company is also considering a potential initial public offering.
