Summary
- Vishal Gupta, CEO of PhonePe Insurance, has departed to start a new company.
- Gupta previously held key product and customer experience roles at PhonePe.
- PhonePe's insurance business will integrate into its consumer payments division.

Vishal Gupta, the CEO of PhonePe Insurance Broking Services, has stepped down from his position. He intends to embark on a new entrepreneurial endeavor, which he described as a "natural next step" in his career.
Gupta joined PhonePe in 2016, contributing to product development and customer experience before leading the insurance distribution business. His exit marks another senior departure from the fintech firm this year, following similar departures from its stockbroking and app store divisions.
PhonePe has indicated that its insurance business will be integrated into its consumer payments segment. The company entered the insurance distribution space in August 2021 and had sold approximately 18.49 million policies by September 2025. This integration occurs as PhonePe, with over 700 million users as of April 2026, continues to diversify into financial services like lending and wealth management.
