India Eases Petrochemical Import Duties Amid Crisis
30 Jun
Summary
- Nil customs duty on 40 petrochemical products extended to July 15.
- Measure aims to ensure supply stability for plastics, packaging, pharma sectors.
- West Asia crisis-induced supply chain disruptions are the primary concern.

The Indian government has extended a waiver on customs duties for critical petrochemical imports for an additional 15 days, now through July 15. This measure is crucial for maintaining the stability of supply chains for sectors heavily reliant on these materials.
Industries such as plastics, packaging, and pharmaceuticals depend on these imported petrochemical feedstocks and intermediates. The exemption was initially implemented on April 2 and was set to expire on June 30.
This duty relief is a direct response to disruptions caused by the ongoing West Asia crisis. The aim is to mitigate cost pressures on downstream manufacturers and ensure a consistent supply of essential industrial inputs for the domestic market.
The exemption covers a range of products, including Methanol, Anhydrous ammonia, Toluene, Styrene, and various resins. This initiative is expected to provide broader relief to consumers of final products by stabilizing prices and availability.
