20 Jun
Summary
- New toll plaza construction is nearing completion on Bob Sikes Bridge.
- The project aims to significantly reduce traffic congestion on Pensacola Beach.
- Enhanced safety and traffic management features are part of the upgrade.

Construction crews have reached a milestone in the Bob Sikes Bridge toll plaza project, beginning the installation of the gantry structure. This significant upgrade, costing $6,559,570, is designed to decrease traffic congestion and enhance safety for Pensacola Beach visitors and residents. The project is scheduled for completion in Summer 2026, with enhanced safety features and improved emergency vehicle access planned.
To accommodate upcoming summer events, including the Blue Angels Pensacola Beach Air Show and increased July beach traffic, construction operations on the toll plaza will be temporarily suspended at the end of June. This pause will allow for the reopening of all lanes onto the beach, ensuring a smoother experience for the anticipated crowds. Following Labor Day, the existing toll booth is slated for demolition.
Beyond traffic flow, the new plaza incorporates advanced features such as landscaping for beautification and the integration of fiber optics. These will connect to traffic signals and a regional Traffic Management Center in Northwest Florida, enabling real-time monitoring and response to congestion in Escambia and Santa Rosa counties.
