13 Mar
Summary
- Global PC shipments are forecasted to fall 11.6 percent in 2026.
- Memory shortages are expected to continue well into 2027.
- Surging memory costs have already impacted major tech companies this year.

The global PC market is facing a significant downturn, with International Data Corporation (IDC) forecasting an 11.6 percent drop in shipments for 2026. This revised forecast is down from an earlier projection of an 8.9 percent fall for the current year, highlighting worsening memory shortages.
These memory shortages are expected to persist well into 2027, according to IDC's research manager. While a potential easing of prices might begin in 2028, the market is unlikely to see a return to 2025 pricing levels.
The escalating conflicts in Iran and the broader Middle East could further negatively impact the computing industry and other sectors. Major technology firms, including HP, Samsung, Valve, and Framework, have already experienced surging memory costs this year, with more companies anticipated to follow suit.
