- PayPal partners with OpenAI to integrate its digital wallet into ChatGPT
- Allows PayPal users to buy items and merchants to sell on the AI platform
- Expands PayPal's reach to hundreds of millions of ChatGPT users

On October 26, 2025, PayPal Holdings Inc. (NASDAQ:PYPL) announced a groundbreaking partnership with OpenAI to integrate its digital wallet into the ChatGPT platform. The agreement, finalized over the previous weekend, will allow PayPal users to seamlessly buy items through the AI-powered chatbot, while merchants can list their inventory and sell directly on the platform starting next year.
"Hundreds of millions of people turn to ChatGPT each week for help with everyday tasks, including finding products they love, and over 400 million use PayPal to shop," said Alex Chriss, CEO of PayPal. "This integration will bring the convenience of PayPal's digital wallet to the ChatGPT user experience, enabling AI-powered commerce at scale."
The move is part of OpenAI's broader push towards "agentic commerce," where its AI tools not only recommend products but also facilitate purchases on behalf of users. Just last month, the company announced similar e-commerce deals with Walmart Inc. (NYSE:WMT) and allowed its users to shop from Shopify Inc. (NYSE:SHOP) and Etsy Inc. (NASDAQ:ETSY) merchants.

For PayPal, the integration with ChatGPT follows a previous strategic partnership with Google (NASDAQ:GOOG) (NASDAQ:GOOGL) to integrate its payment solutions with the tech giant's AI-powered shopping and cloud platforms. The company also said it is expanding the use of OpenAI's enterprise AI products for its own employees to speed up product cycles.
