Patna Vendors: New Hours, Strict Fines!
30 Nov
Summary
- Street vendors in Patna must now operate only from 5-8 am and 8-10 pm.
- Nine special teams formed to tackle encroachments in key Patna areas.
- Repeat offenders face mandatory FIRs and traffic police will conduct vehicle checks.

Patna's street vendors will now operate under a strict new schedule, with sales of fruits and vegetables permitted only between 5 am to 8 am and 8 pm to 10 pm. This initiative by the administration aims to alleviate traffic congestion and reduce encroachments in busy market areas across six circles of the Patna Municipal Corporation and three Nagar Parishads.
To enforce these regulations, nine special teams have been formed to prioritize clearing encroachments from key locations such as GPO to Patna Junction and Boring Road Chowk. The campaign, a joint effort between the municipal corporation and traffic police, includes provisions for on-the-spot challans and fines. Habitual encroachers will face punitive action, with mandatory FIRs for repeat offenders.
The administration's target is to provide relief to commuters by removing illegal occupations by the end of December. Officials emphasize maintaining dialogue with stakeholders while ensuring public convenience and keeping roads clear throughout the day. A special vehicle checking drive by traffic police will also be conducted during this period.
