Papa John's Relaunches in India with 650 Vegetarian-Focused Stores Planned
11 Oct, 2025
Summary
- Papa John's prioritizing India for global growth
- Relaunching with majority-vegetarian menu
- Plans to open 650 stores in India over next decade

Papa John's International is placing India among its priority markets globally and tailoring its offerings to local tastes. The world's third-largest pizza delivery company, which exited India in 2017 citing underperformance, has relaunched with four stores in Bengaluru as of October 2025.
The company plans to open 650 stores nationwide over the next decade, a significant long-term investment in the Indian market. This strategic move comes as executives and analysts tip discretionary spending in India to recover on the back of recent tax cuts, after several quarters of sluggish demand across the fast-food sector.
To attract Indian consumers, Papa John's is offering more vegetarian pizzas than non-vegetarian ones for the first time in its history. India has the world's highest number of vegetarians, and the company is pricing its entry-level margherita pizza at 149 rupees ($1.68), slightly higher than market leader Domino's Pizza's offering.
