Panasonic Holdings announced an upward revision of its full-year operating profit forecast, now projecting 710 billion yen, a substantial 20% increase from previous estimates. This marks the second consecutive quarter the Japanese conglomerate has elevated its financial outlook for the fiscal year ending March 2027.
The company's Chief Executive Officer, Yuki Kusumi, expressed surprise at the extent of the AI-related demand, noting it surpassed even his optimistic expectations. Factors contributing to this robust performance include favorable price adjustments, beneficial foreign exchange rates, and the absence of tariff impacts experienced in the prior year.
The crucial Energy unit, which provides electric vehicle batteries to companies such as Tesla, reported a remarkable surge in operating profit. For the second quarter, this segment's profit reached 55.6 billion yen, a significant leap from the 1.2 billion yen recorded a year earlier. This unit also saw its full-year profit forecast increased by 16% to 198 billion yen.
Growth within the Energy unit was fueled by increased sales of EV batteries in North America and systems for data center energy storage. Additionally, Panasonic's Industry business experienced higher sales of essential components like capacitors and multilayer circuit-board materials, vital for AI infrastructure development.
