Summary
- Final location survey approved for Palakkad-Pollachi-Podanur rail doubling.
- Project aims to ease congestion and increase train services.
- New stations may be established at Kovilpalayam and Chettipalayam.

The Union government has sanctioned the final location survey for the crucial doubling of the Palakkad-Pollachi-Podanur railway line. This initiative is designed to significantly ease rail traffic congestion between Palakkad and Coimbatore, thereby enabling an increase in train services along this vital corridor.
The proposed doubling project will transform the existing single-track line into a double-track corridor. This upgrade is anticipated to enhance rail connectivity between Kerala and western Tamil Nadu, fostering infrastructure development and economic activity. A notable aspect of the plan includes the potential upgrading of Anaimalai Road railway station and the establishment of new stations at Kovilpalayam and Chettipalayam.
Furthermore, the revised alignment is expected to bypass forest areas, mitigating the risks of wildlife-related train accidents, particularly involving elephants. While the Pollachi route is approximately 40 km longer, officials project that increased train speeds on the doubled line will maintain current passenger train timings. The survey's completion will initiate the detailed technical assessment and planning phases, progressing towards administrative approval and work sanction.
