The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) is spearheading these initiatives, which are specifically designed to enhance freight mobility throughout the state.
Funding for these crucial upgrades comes from both the Rail Transportation Assistance Program (RTAP) and the Rail Freight Assistance Program (RFAP). These investments are projected to create approximately 450 jobs, bolstering the state's economy and its connections to global markets.
Secretary Mike Carroll of PennDOT highlighted the importance of the rail freight network, stating it supports jobs and economic development. The funding will be distributed across various rail lines and yards in counties including Allegheny, Armstrong, Butler, Clearfield, Elk, Jefferson, Lawrence, McKean, Cameron, Washington, Westmoreland, and more.
