Summary
- Over $40 million spent on land for new power plants.
- Land acquired to meet rising data center electricity demand.
- Joint venture in early evaluation stages for projects.

PPL Corporation, in partnership with Blackstone Infrastructure, has allocated over $40 million to purchase more than 500 acres in Jenkins, Plains, and Salem townships, Pennsylvania. This strategic land acquisition is being considered for the development of new power plants to address the escalating demand for electricity, primarily driven by the rapid growth of data centers.
The joint venture, organized as Phoenix PA Land Holdings LLC, acquired over 400 acres in Jenkins and Plains townships for $27.75 million and an additional 140-plus acres in Salem Township for $12.66 million. These acquisitions position the venture near existing power infrastructure, including Talen Energy's Moxie Freedom natural gas plant and the Susquehanna Steam Electric Station nuclear plant.
Ryan Hill of PPL Corporation emphasized that these are early evaluation stages, and no final decisions have been made to proceed with specific generation projects. The venture aims to proactively address the need for new power generation as demand rises and older plants retire. PPL Corporation holds a 51% stake in the joint venture, with Blackstone holding 49%.
