Oviedo Homes Shake as Expressway Widening Begins

Construction noise and vibrations are already impacting Oviedo residents as the Florida Department of Transportation begins its major expansion of the Seminole Expressway, State Road 417. Work is underway to widen the road from four to eight lanes between Aloma Avenue and State Road 434. Residents in the Seneca Bend neighborhood are reporting significant disturbances, including loud banging and tremors that shake their homes.
The most disruptive phase, involving pile-driving operations, is scheduled to commence and is expected to last for approximately one month. These operations will occur daily from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. and are anticipated to continue through February 6, 2026. Despite efforts by crews to mitigate impacts, daily noise and vibrations are expected, along with temporary lane shifts.
