Overworked Employee Resigns, Leaves Department Defunct

On November 14, 2025, an employee reached his breaking point after enduring continual disrespect from his department head. Despite giving his all to keep the department running, he was repeatedly spoken down to and stripped of basic courtesy.

The confrontation occurred the previous Friday when the manager called and began addressing the employee in a crude, insulting manner. The manager accused him of coasting since joining 5 months earlier and claimed he was not meeting deadlines. However, the employee clarified that he had been handling double the workload since the only other member of the tiny team quit a month earlier for a better opportunity.

Nonetheless, the manager insisted that the employee handle the responsibilities of two people without any overtime compensation. Faced with these unreasonable demands delivered in a demeaning tone, the employee decided he could no longer tolerate the disrespect. He waited for his salary to be deposited, then quietly submitted his resignation the very next day, effectively dissolving the entire 2-person department.

The employee later shared his story on the Indian Workplace subreddit, sparking a discussion on the need to improve work culture in the country. While some questioned if his reaction was excessive, many praised his stand, believing it was the kind of action required to address workplace mistreatment.
