Celebrity-Loved Oura Ring Files for Public Offering

Oura, the San Francisco-based company renowned for its health-tracking smart rings, has publicly filed for an impending listing on the Nasdaq stock exchange. Founded in Finland in 2013, Oura's rings have gained significant traction among wellness enthusiasts, boasting celebrity fans and ambassadors that include Jennifer Aniston, Prince Harry, and Kim Kardashian. The smart rings monitor key health metrics such as heart rate, temperature, and sleep quality, with prices ranging from $349 to $499, plus a monthly subscription fee.

In the nine months leading up to June 30, Oura reported a substantial $1.21 billion in revenue, marking a 74% increase year-on-year. The company recently achieved profitability, posting $60.8 million in earnings for the same period, a significant jump from $1.6 million in the prior year. Investors are particularly drawn to Oura's highly successful subscription model, which has grown to 5 million users and achieved 89% gross margins during the same nine-month period.

Hardware sales constitute approximately 80% of Oura's revenue, with membership revenue surging 121% year-over-year to $240.5 million. Subscribers engage with the app frequently, opening it over 3.5 times daily on average. The user base is predominantly female (72%) and falls within the 30-45 age bracket (42%). Oura has amassed a vast dataset, collecting nearly 42 billion hours of biometric physiological data across 50 metrics. Their latest product, the Oura Ring 5, launched in May at $399.
