- Online marketplace ordered to pay compensation and costs.
- Commission cited insufficient evidence for product rejection.
A district consumer commission in Telangana has directed an online marketplace to refund Rs 17,839 to a customer for a returned pair of sunglasses. The customer, T Pranav Rao, purchased the sunglasses on August 5, 2023, and sought a return due to dissatisfaction with their quality on August 15, 2023.
Despite the company confirming pickup of the returned item on August 19, 2023, they later claimed the sunglasses failed a quality check and refused a refund. The commission noted that the company's returned policy allowed for quality checks but found the provided evidence insufficient to attribute any alleged damage to Rao.
The commission found the company's quality-check email lacked specific defect details. Furthermore, a review of the company's video evidence was deemed not continuous, weakening its claim that the returned product's condition was due to the customer. The order, passed on September 21, 2026, also awarded Rs 5,000 compensation and Rs 5,000 for litigation costs.
