Acoustic Testing Unlocks Chronometer Status for Two-Hand Watch
26 Mar
Summary
- Omega's Constellation Observatory is the first two-hand watch certified Master Chronometer.
- New acoustic testing method bypasses need for a seconds hand.
- METAS certification tests the entire watch, not just the movement.

Omega has introduced its Constellation Observatory collection, marking a significant achievement as the first two-hand watches to attain Master Chronometer status without a seconds hand. This milestone was made possible by a revolutionary acoustic testing process. This new procedure developed by Omega's own laboratory continuously monitors the watch's ticking sounds and environmental conditions over 25 days. Traditional certification methods, like those used by COSC, rely on photographic tracking of a seconds hand, which is not feasible for watches without one. The more rigorous METAS standard tests the entire watch for accuracy, magnetic resistance, and water resistance, with a stricter accuracy requirement than COSC. Omega's proprietary Master Chronometer certification requires passing both COSC and METAS tests. The Constellation Observatory's innovative testing bypasses the need for a seconds hand, generating continuous data for superior accuracy assessment.
