New York State has made substantial progress with its $21.6 million Dairy Modernization Grant Program, supporting local dairy farmers and cooperatives. In June 2025, 103 farms and cooperatives received grants, with 90% of these projects now completed or in progress.
The program, administered by the Farm and Food Growth Fund, provides grants ranging from $50,000 to $250,000. These funds are earmarked for essential upgrades such as milk storage tanks, pipelines, and transport tankers, aiming to enhance supply chain efficiency and prevent milk dumping during emergencies.
Further investment is planned, with Round 2 offering $8.5 million later this summer. Additionally, Round 3, approved in the final 2026-27 budget, will allocate nearly $13 million to dairy farmers, demonstrating a continued commitment to the state's dairy legacy.
