AI Giant Nvidia Guides Stellar Growth, Faces Debt Headwinds
27 Aug
Summary
- Nvidia expects 70% revenue growth in FY28, citing supply constraints.
- Indebtedness is highlighted as a key risk factor in Nvidia's filing.
- Data center revenue surged 117% year-on-year to $89 billion.

Nvidia announced stellar second-quarter fiscal 2027 results, with revenue exceeding $96 billion and earnings per share reaching $2.22, both surpassing analyst forecasts. The AI leader provided guidance for fiscal year 2028, projecting revenue growth of 70%. This projection, however, is influenced by ongoing supply chain limitations that are preventing potentially double year-on-year growth.
Demand for Nvidia's AI chips remains exceptionally strong, as indicated by its agreement with Amazon Web Services for millions of GPUs and CPUs. The data center business alone generated $89 billion in revenue, marking a significant 117% increase compared to the previous year. This performance contributed to a surge in Nvidia's stock price.
Despite the strong financial performance and optimistic growth outlook, Nvidia has disclosed indebtedness as a significant risk factor. The company's debt now stands at $33.5 billion in senior notes outstanding and a $25 billion commercial paper program. An increase in debt due within the next one to five years, from $2.75 billion to $15 billion, was also noted.
