- Council seeks to attract investment and improve town aesthetics.
West Northamptonshire Council's cabinet will consider masterplans for Northampton and Daventry town centres this Tuesday, charting a course for future regeneration. These plans are designed to attract investment and significantly improve the aesthetics and connectivity of both areas.
For Northampton, the focus is on creating a more walkable town with new residential neighbourhoods and better riverside utilization. Daventry's regeneration includes plans for a new play attraction and family leisure facilities at New Street Recreation Ground, alongside enhancements to public spaces and connections to Daventry Country Park.
These masterplans aim to build on previous successes, such as Northampton's 2019 plan which helped secure over £500 million in investment. While not committing to specific projects yet, the plans provide a roadmap for future development and funding opportunities. Similar plans for Towcester and Brackley are anticipated.
Kamala Guliyeva, the council's cabinet member for local economy, culture and leisure, stated that the masterplans, developed with resident feedback, aim to create welcoming, sustainable town centres for the future. These initiatives are expected to foster opportunity, strengthen local businesses, and support thriving communities.
