NIO Earnings: Deliveries Rise, But Margin Pressure Looms
31 Aug
Summary
- NIO's Q2 deliveries increased by 49.4% to 107,658 vehicles.
- First-quarter revenue surged 112.2% year over year.
- Investors will monitor new models ONVO and FIREFLY's impact.

NIO's upcoming second-quarter earnings report will be closely scrutinized by investors as the Chinese EV manufacturer balances increasing deliveries with the costs of expanding its model range. The company is scheduled to announce its results before the U.S. market opens on September 1, 2026. Analysts project a per-share loss of five cents on revenue of $4.95 billion.
In the first quarter, NIO demonstrated notable profitability improvements. Its adjusted operating profit reached RMB66.8 million, and revenue soared by 112.2% year over year to RMB25.53 billion. Gross margin improved to 19%, with vehicle margin climbing significantly from 10.2% to 18.8% compared to the previous year.
Although second-quarter deliveries saw a 49.4% increase to 107,658 units, this figure was below NIO's projected range of 110,000 to 115,000 vehicles. However, July's volume alone grew by 71% year over year to 35,934 vehicles, contributing to a year-to-date delivery count of 227,057 units.
Key to the upcoming report will be the performance of NIO's newer ONVO and FIREFLY models, and whether they can sustain volume while the company adheres to its vehicle margin targets of 17% to 18%. Currently, Wall Street analysts largely recommend a 'Buy' rating, while Seeking Alpha's Quant rating stands at 'Hold'. The earnings outcome may well dictate whether NIO's improving margins and accelerating deliveries can overcome ongoing concerns regarding execution and overall profitability.
