Cooking Gas Prices Plummet in Nigeria

The cost of Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG), commonly known as cooking gas, has fallen across Nigeria in recent weeks. In Abuja and surrounding areas, the price per kilogram has dropped to approximately N1,300, a decrease of N150 to N200 from previous rates.
This price decline is closely linked to a significant increase in LPG imports. Data from June 2026 indicates a remarkable 1,400% rise in daily LPG imports, reaching 1.5 kilotonnes. This surge in supply has led to lower prices for depot owners, who now sell LPG between N997 and N1,030 per kilogram, down from as high as N1,100.
Consequently, most LPG retailers in Abuja are now selling cooking gas at N1,500 per kilogram, a reduction from around N1,700. The ongoing price decrease offers relief to consumers relying on LPG for cooking.
