The Nifty Midcap 100 index achieved a historic high on Wednesday, continuing its upward trend for the fourth consecutive session. This performance stands out against a backdrop of a largely flat broader market, with investors favoring companies demonstrating robust earnings and positive growth outlooks. The index saw a 0.4% increase on Wednesday, bringing its gain over the past four sessions to 2.1%, surpassing the benchmark Nifty's 1.1% rise in the same period.
Several stocks within the index performed exceptionally well, including Adani Total Gas, which surged over 13%, followed by Exide Industries and Swiggy. Analysts noted that strong earnings visibility and future growth prospects are the primary drivers behind the momentum in midcap stocks. Since the announcement of a ceasefire between the US and Iran, the Nifty Midcap 100 has gained 10.1%.
Looking ahead, analysts are optimistic about sustained momentum, forecasting potential for 20% gains in the medium term for the midcap index. While the Nifty Smallcap 100 index is also showing strength, it remains about 7% shy of its all-time highs. Domestic-facing sectors like defense, power, and industrials are expected to attract continued buying interest due to government spending, potentially propelling the index further.
