NHM Staff Absorption: No Private Recruiters!
20 Oct
Summary
- 14,788 NHM contract employees absorbed into permanent govt service.
- No recruitment agencies will be used for future NHM vacancies.
- Absorbed employees get basic pay but no promotions or pension.
As of October 20, 2026, a significant shift is occurring within the National Health Mission (NHM) framework. Approximately 14,788 employees, who have served on contract for a decade or more, are being absorbed into permanent government positions. This absorption is being managed through the creation of supernumerary posts, ensuring continuity in service delivery.
NHM Commissioner Sanjay Katkar has explicitly stated that the recruitment process for any posts that may become vacant will not involve private agencies. The existing direct recruitment methods for contract positions will be maintained. This clarification addresses concerns about potential outsourcing of hiring.
While these employees are being granted permanent status and assured minimum basic pay, their benefits differ from regular government employees. They will not receive promotions, assured career progression, or pension benefits under these special provisions. NHM continues its mission to provide accessible healthcare across India.
