Next Sales Surge Past Forecasts on Hot Weather Boost
5 Aug
Summary
- Second-quarter full-price sales grew 9.2%, exceeding expectations.
- Annual profit outlook raised for the third time this year.
- Hot weather and pent-up demand contributed to strong sales.

British clothing retailer Next has once again enhanced its annual profit forecast, marking the third upward revision this year. The company announced a significant 9.2% increase in second-quarter full-price sales, a performance that notably surpassed its own expectations.
This over-performance, amounting to £70 million more than predicted, is attributed to favorable market conditions. Unseasonably warm weather in the UK, mirroring the previous year's exceptional summer, played a crucial role. Additionally, pent-up consumer demand in the Middle East and Northern Europe, following a weaker first quarter in those territories, contributed to the sales uplift.
As a result of these positive trends, Next now projects a profit before tax of £1.243 billion for the year ending January 2027. This revised figure represents an increase from the previous guidance of £1.218 billion. The company has maintained its forecast for full-price sales growth of 5.0% for the remainder of the year.
