New Zealand has enhanced its Business Investor Work Visa to attract global investment and facilitate residency. Effective from July 6, 2026, the updated visa provides more flexible investment avenues for business-minded individuals. Applicants are required to invest a minimum of NZD $1 million in an established New Zealand company to qualify for a work-to-residence pathway.
Two investment tiers are available: NZD $1 million for a three-year pathway and NZD $2 million for a fast-tracked permanent residency after twelve months. Key changes introduced on July 6, 2026, include eligibility for franchise businesses, the ability to purchase businesses via a New Zealand resident entity, and greater flexibility in sourcing investment funds, such as accepting lawfully earned gifted capital.
These adjustments aim to streamline the investment process, encouraging global businessmen to contribute to New Zealand's economic expansion. Eligible applicants can include their partners and dependent children, provided they demonstrate sufficient funds for self-support and business establishment. The visa's fee stands at NZD $12,380.
