Metro Phoenix Welcomes Grocery Store Boom

Metro Phoenix is set to welcome a wave of new grocery stores in the coming months and years. Sprouts Farmers Market is expanding with two new locations opening on July 24th. One will be located in Phoenix near its new corporate headquarters, and the other in Buckeye.
Vallarta Supermarkets plans to open a new store in south Phoenix in early 2027. Seafood City, specializing in Filipino ingredients, will open its first Arizona location in Chandler this summer. Costco is also expanding, with its first store on tribal land slated for January 2027, and a business center and gas station in Chandler by the end of 2026.
Trader Joe's is broadening its presence with new stores in central and north Phoenix, including one at Desert Ridge Marketplace. A specialty Japanese grocery store, Osaka Marketplace, will open its first location outside California in north Phoenix in the latter half of 2027. Aldi is continuing its expansion, having already opened three of its planned ten stores for 2026 in metro Phoenix, with more to come.
Whole Foods will open locations in Surprise at the Village at Prasada and its first Glendale store near Arrowhead Towne Center. Timelines for these Whole Foods openings have not yet been announced.
