Onion Farmers Take Charge: National Bhavan Launched
16 Dec, 2025
Summary
- Farmers to control onion prices and market monitoring.
- National Onion Bhavan to be built on two acres for ₹5 crore.
- Direct sales chain to link farmers, consumers, and global markets.

Farmers in Nashik are set to gain unprecedented control over the onion market with the upcoming National Onion Bhavan. Spearheaded by the Maharashtra State Onion Producer Farmers' Organisation, this center will regulate prices, monitor markets, and support farmers from cultivation through to sales. The initiative aims to transform onion farming into a secure and reliable income source, moving away from its current debt-driven vulnerability.
The National Onion Bhavan, planned for a two-acre site in Nashik with an initial investment of ₹5 crore, will also focus on crucial aspects like onion seed research, quality control, and collective procurement of inputs. This aims to significantly reduce costs for farmers and ensure scientific management of crops, a stark contrast to past decisions made without farmer consultation.
A direct sales chain will connect farmers to domestic and international consumers, bypassing middlemen. This system is designed to guarantee sustainable profits for growers while ensuring consumers receive onions at reasonable, stable prices. The facility will also include amenities for farmers and traders, fostering collaboration and informed decision-making.
