Summary
- Six new elevated water tanks with 20 lakh liters capacity each are being built.
- The project aims to support Nashik's population growth from 14 to 25 lakh.
- Tenders worth Rs 21 crore are being processed, with work expected to start soon.
The Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) is undertaking a major infrastructure development, tendering Rs 21 crore for the construction of six new elevated water tanks. These tanks, each with a 20 lakh liter capacity, will collectively add 1.2 crore liters to the city's water storage. This expansion is a direct response to Nashik's population increase, which has nearly doubled from 14 lakh in 2014 to the current 25 lakh, placing significant strain on existing water supply systems.
The project targets areas experiencing increased water demand and is expected to be completed within 12 to 18 months. Tenders are due by November 12, with bid openings on November 13. Civic officials anticipate construction commencement by late November, pending approvals and work order issuance. Specific locations include Hirawadi, Mahatma Nagar, Ganesh Nagar, Durga Udyan, Pathardi, and Krushna Nagar, with project costs ranging from Rs 2.6 crore to Rs 4.6 crore for individual tanks.
These new reservoirs are designed to augment water storage and enhance distribution efficiency across the city. The NMC is committed to upgrading and expanding its water infrastructure to ensure adequate supply for all residents. The initiative reflects a proactive approach to managing urban growth and safeguarding water security for Nashik's expanding population.
