The Union government has directed the Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) to prepare a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the second phase of the Ram Kal Path project, a critical initiative for the Simhastha Kumbh Mela 2027 preparations. This upcoming phase is estimated to cost around Rs250 crore, increasing the overall projected expenditure for the Ram Kal Path project to approximately Rs395 crore. The directive was issued by the Union tourism secretary during a recent review of ongoing Phase I works.
The second phase of the project will focus on the stretch between the Kalaram Temple and Kapaleshwar Temple, situated near Ramkund along the Godavari River. Meanwhile, Phase I, funded by the Centre at an estimated Rs145 crore, is already underway. This includes development from Ahilyabai Holkar bridge to Kalaram Temple and Sita Gufa.
Overall, the Ram Kal Path project aims to enhance the historic Panchavati area through infrastructure upgrades and heritage restoration. Specific components include temple conservation and facade treatment costing Rs22.55 crore, alongside major infrastructure works like ghat enhancements and illumination for Rs83.35 crore. These efforts are integral to transforming the Ramkund-Kalaram Temple corridor into a significant cultural and tourism hub before the 2027 Kumbh Mela.
