Nagpur's Sanitation Workers Caught Skipping Duties Despite Face Recognition Attendance
9 Nov
Summary
- Face recognition attendance system reveals 63-83% efficiency across zones
- Many workers mark attendance but disappear from assigned sweeping beats
- Midday attendance checks introduced to ensure on-field presence

In October 2025, the Nagpur Municipal Corporation (NMC) implemented a face recognition attendance system for its sanitation workers to monitor their punctuality and presence on city roads. However, the data from the new Geo-Fencing Attendance System has exposed significant lapses in on-ground presence, with efficiency ranging between 63% and 83% across the ten zones.
The Gandhibagh zone topped the chart with 82.81% attendance, followed by Hanuman Nagar (68.58%) and Dhantoli (74.01%). On the lower end, Lakadganj recorded only 63.5% attendance, followed by Aashi Nagar (64.4%) and Dharampeth (70.42%).
