400-Year-Old Temple Gets ₹72.49 Crore Makeover

The historic Kalyaneshwar Mandir in Nagpur, estimated to be around 400 years old, is slated for a significant upgrade. The state government's apex committee has greenlit a revised development plan amounting to ₹72.49 crore for the temple complex. This approval signifies a major facelift for the revered site, which draws numerous visitors annually.
The revised plan introduces several key modifications from earlier proposals. Notably, mechanical basement parking has been substituted with two levels of conventional basement parking to better suit site requirements. The plan also removes proposed residential accommodation and incorporates the construction of the temple's shikhar, a prominent architectural feature.
Further enhancements include the construction of a grand sabhamandap and a multi-purpose hall, aiming for a cohesive architectural identity with Hemadpanthi-style beautification. The development will also provide dedicated facilities for Mahaprasad, administrative offices, a Vedashala for Vedic studies, a yoga centre, and improved amenities like restrooms and drinking water. A modern rainwater harvesting system is also included in the comprehensive plan, which will extend to the development of associated shrines.
