Muon Space, a specialist in small satellite technology, has secured $250 million in Series C funding, enabling its strategic pivot towards larger, more compute-intensive spacecraft and constellations. This investment is poised to accelerate the development of advanced space infrastructure as industries increasingly depend on space-based intelligence and communications.
The company has deployed 11 satellites to date and has over 50 more under development for various clients. To support this growth, Muon Space recently opened a new manufacturing facility in San Jose, California, designed for a tenfold increase in production capacity, aiming to produce up to 500 satellites annually by 2027.
While its current fleet consists of smaller, 200-kilogram class satellites, Muon Space plans to launch its first 500-kilogram MuSat XL spacecraft in the upcoming year for Hubble Network. Furthermore, the company unveiled its Starship-class Condor-Ultra platform in June, designed for high-power orbital data centers and slated for a 2028 debut.
With this latest funding, Muon Space has raised over $386 million in total equity. The company emphasizes its "Mission Foundry" model, which integrates mission design, spacecraft, software, and operations in-house, controlling 95% of its production. This approach allows for full system optimization around customer requirements, distinguishing it from competitors focusing on standardized satellite buses.
